This throwback thursday i’m sharing my face to face. picture on the left is from march 2017 and picture on the right is from may 2018. when you look at me on the left side i know you’ll probably say she’s still beautiful.. but i would never agree with you. the only thing i used to feel 14 months ago about myself was embarrassment, complete shame and pain. i couldn’t point out one thing i loved about myself let alone my body. how did i ever let myself get so big? how did i ever stop caring about my health? most of all why was i digging myself an early grave. i could come up with every excuse i used to use to blame my weight gain. but on march 14th, 2017 i had enough of my excuses and i was sick of letting my autoimmune disease win. i had to take control of my health and i had to do it now. no waiting till tomorrow, monday, next year. after not being able to no longer fit into my favorite plus size store @maurices i left that day devastated but something in me changed. something sparked a fight i knew i had in me all along. that same day i joined a new gym and went grocery shopping. i knew this was going to be the toughest battle i took on in my life thus far but my life was worth all the fight i continue to fight. 14 months later one thing i can tell you is i still have days where i struggle with my confidence but that’s normal i’m only human. but one thing i can for sure tell you is i feel overall happier and healthier. i smile more but most of all i’m proud of myself. i still have ways to go on my journey but for me this journey has never been about losing weight. it’s been about feeling better and believing in myself. i deserve to be happy but most of all i want to live this life. i know tomorrow isn’t promised but i don’t life my life in fear anymore not knowing if i’ll wake up. the last 14 months truly have shown me how strong i am mentally and physically. so for anyone out there that’s struggling you aren’t alone. i struggle still but i am much more stronger. no matter where your starting point is just know you are much more then your weight. you are strong enough to start your own happier and healthier journey. read more down below: ⬇️

Been fluctuating around 140-142 for the last couple weeks, and that’s because i’ve decided to stop tracking. i know how my body responds to certain foods and to the amounts i eat, so it’s relatively easy for me to auto-regulate. plus, i’ve been tracking for like 4 years now and know portions / calorie densities like the back of my hand 🙃 i’ll keep ya updated on how i’m maintaining!

i have a lot of people asking me on a day to day basis “should i be cutting or bulking??” truth is, you don’t have to do either. you don’t need to be doing one of those things to achieve physique goals.

i also have a lot of people ask, “what is cutting? what is bulking?” let me break it down for you
cutting: something you can do for lifestyle or to compete. cutting essentially just means you’re cutting down on body fat. to do this, you need to be in a caloric deficit (burning more than what you’re intaking) this sounds nice to everyone because most people want to be lean. however, if you don’t have any muscle built you might want to consider reverse dieting first.
bulking: you might hear people also call this “reverse dieting”. this is what i’m currently doing. you need to be in a caloric surplus (intaking more than you’re burning) the goal here is to put on lean muscle mass, and a little f*t gain can come with this too. the idea is to put on muscle so when you go back to maintaining or cutting, you’ll have a base built and will have a better shape & body composition. -

what’s your favorite snack that isn’t fruit?

🥨as much as i love snacking on apples, bananas, berries and grapefruit, sometimes i need something with a salty crunch, or something that can stay in my bag for days without going bad.

🥜bamba, by the way, is like cheese puff but instead of cheese, it’s flavored with peanut butter! i love it because you don’t need a lot of it to feel satisfied and it doesn’t make you feel like c**p (like cheese puffs). it can be found in trader joe’s and wegmans.
.
🌶roasted spiced chickpeas also make a delicious, satisfying snack. just toss chickpeas in a bowl with your favorite spices (think warm ones like cumin, paprika, turmeric) and salt and pepper. bake on 400f for about 15 minutes and don’t forget to shake the pan halfway to rotate the chickpeas.

🍌plantain chips (also from trader joe’s) are sooo good too. i guess a plantain is technically a fruit but not quite in chip form! many of you asked me if plantain chips are a better swap for potato chips. my take on this - if you want potato chips, eat them. if you just want something crunchy and salty, these work too.
