Squats. some people didn’t do em and still won multiple mr. olympia’s (dorian yates). some people used to do em, don’t do em anymore and still look incredible (dexter jackson). other people swore by em and had some of the freakiest set of legs ever (tom platz). for the other 99% of us peeps, squats are a must to gain size in our quads. when i first started training, i did em faithfully. 23 years later, i still include some form of squat in every leg workout. here are a few tips i’ve learned in my 23 years of training...
1. the setup : barbell high on your traps. the higher the barbell, the more upright my torso will be when i squat down. feet slightly inside shoulder width, toes slightly pointed out.
2. arms about shoulder width apart holding the barbell. right before i begin my descent, i rotate my arms and point my elbows down ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿป. 3. the descent : take a deep breath, hold it and tighten your entire body. slowly descend.
4. don’t strain your neck by looking up. i look straight ahead, slightly down even. as i’m descending, i’m thinking of 2 things : 1) i pretend to turn my feet outwards. doing this keeps my knees from bowing in and keeps my knees in line with my feet. 2) i pretend to bend the bar that is sitting across my traps downward. this is impossible to do but doing this keeps my elbows pointing down keeping my torso as upright as possible.
5. explode out of the hole : when my quads are parallel to the floor, i exhale and drive back up pushing thru my heels stopping short of fully locking out my knees. that’s 1 rep ๐Ÿ˜ณ

I push till i can no longer stand,
i lift till i can no longer move,
i run till i can no longer catch my breath,
i work out with all that i've got!
all of this for the reward of unbearable pain...
you can have the perfect body surgically done but you cannot fake strength.
power that comes in handy in times of distress, to defend yourself and protect the ones you care for.
i willingly go through these struggles to be strong and healthy for the ones i hold dear. it is not a pleasurable ordeal but i find satisfaction in doing it for the people that i love.

Quick back and shoulder session. 30 minutes of cardio on the stairs before i worked up to 250 over head press for a single and back down to 205 for 3 sets of 5. worked some seated face pulls and lat pulls for 3x15 before i finished with some light weighted dips for 2x20. body weight 179.6 #begreat #fightdepression #innerbeast
