“the removal of plastic bags from the player racket stringing operation means there will be 4,500 fewer plastic bags used at this year’s championships, according to the club.” 🎾

A group of students in cologne drew attention to the climate change crisis as part of a school project, by standing on blocks of ice under makeshift gallows.

with ropes tied loosely around their necks, the students stood on the ice blocks as they slowly melted until there was no ice left – resulting in them hanging from the gallows with their feet in the air.
don’t panic though, because no one was actually harmed during the protest; it was all part of an art performance for a school project to raise awareness about climate change.

It's easy to believe that plastic 'dissapears' in garbage bins.
however, this is where the real journey starts. plastic exists a lot than its actual usage time.
.
we need to fundamentally rethink our behaviour and strategy to tackle plastic pollution.
.
ℹ only 9% of all plastic that gets produced actually gets recycled. recycling alone will never stem the flow of plastics into our ocean. there is no “away” – it does not disappear. we must address the problem at the source, slowing down the production of all this plastic waste.
.
1. don’t use throwaway packaging
2. always bring a reusable bag to the shop
3. try to buy in bulk
4. participate in beach or river cleanups
5. demand your government to take action
6. spread the word
.
next time you’re out shopping, think about some easy “rules” of minimalism and ask yourself the following questions:
.
🛒 do i really need this?
🛒 do i already own something similar to this?
🛒 what value is this item going to add to my life?

There are over 22 million bicycles in the netherlands compared to 18 million residents – providing a boon not only for the environment, but also for people’s health and jobs.
dutch cycle so much it’s equivalent to planting 54 million trees a year considering that cycling 7km saves 1kg of co2 compared to driving by car. 🚴

Clean energy is on the rise! .
.
great post @make_earth_green_again .
.
the uk will soon get some of its power from water flowing from scandinavian mountains.
snow and rain in norway will be used to give british homes an energy boost once the world’s longest ‘interconnector’ hooks up the two countries’ grids by 2021.
the ambitious £1.8 billion project from national grid and statnett involves laying down 720km of cable (15cm wide) that will transmit 1,400 megawatts of electricity.
the power carried from norway will hopefully help reduce carbon emissions from the british power sector by 17% by 2030
