The best part of being a photographer is being able to create optical illusions - especially when utilizing locations like this. visual manipulation can happen by being aware of your surroundings, tilting your lens/camera certain ways, elevating yourself or bringing your body closer to the ground, and while editing in photoshop! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
playing with perspective to create illusions is not only fun, but also helps protect the locations i use. did you know that before every session i educate my clients on the location i have chosen for them?? i give specific requests and educate them if there are certain precautions they should take..
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
for example to the n***d eye in the first image it appears as if the family is running around a flower field trampling all the flowers. however, that is far from the truth! they are actually standing in a patch of grass surrounded by flowers. due to the way i positioned them and myself it created an epic illusion that not only looked amazing but protected the flowers around them. which i did for the whole session! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
educating your clients and yourself is so important. learn how to manipulate things you want to achieve either in camera or in photoshop so you can preserve locations such as this. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
also, some of the best locations i have ever used have horrible backgrounds, have little to none shooting space, bad lighting, etc. but because i have learned how to manipulate my surroundings in camera and in photoshop i am able to create masterpieces utilizing my clients emotions and whatever it is i have to work with! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
don't be afraid to get creative and step outside your comfort zone! just be mindful of your surroundings and protecting our wildlife!

“what day is it?”, asked winnie the pooh.
“it’s today,” squeaked piglet.
“my favorite day,” said pooh.

Home from a wonderful week at @olympic_nps and @visitkalalochlodge celebrating our 10 year wedding anniversary as a family. this one became a master rock skipper on this trip - i feel like everyone remembers how they learned to skip rocks, and i am grateful he will have good memories of us doing this here. 🌲🌊💦. .
(added some video clips from my summer 1-3 second project of our trip in stories.)

When we teach we focus a lot on shooting style, direction, posing and making lots of different elements come together for the perfect shot. but then we step back, and somehow my favorites are always the shot behind the shot.
