Kids are smart. probably smarter than we give them credit for. we decided long ago that our kids would divide all money received (gift or earned) into 3 categories: give, save, and spend. they can spend their spend money however they’d like. this has eliminated the begging for toys! when they ask, “can i get xyz?” we respond with, “i don’t know, can you?” i’ll share more about our system soon, but i highly encourage everyone to start talking to your kids about money! even the little ones understand giving, saving, and spending. needs vs wants is another good place to start. this is our 5 year old buying toys that he saved for. he’s so excited to do this by himself!

i remember just a few days after we got engaged, we wrote down all of our income, expenses, and current debt.. down to the penny (he made me πŸ™„). we discussed the role each of us would play, and the changes needed to make it happen. it was then that this focused husband of mine rolled out the vision for us to be debt free! he set a standard and has consistently showed me what it means to not stop until a goal is complete. β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €
i truly thank god for a life partner with vision, a willingness to sacrifice, and a financial strategy for our household... we dream, we plan and we execute!
we did it baby!! no more student loans and no more debt!!! πŸ™ŒπŸ½

This past january, rob and i wrote our goals for 2019 we decided to pay an extra $10,000 toward the principal on our mortgage this year (above and beyond our monthly minimum payments.) when we made the goal, we figured it would take all year to knock an extra 10k off our mortgage principal. we can’t believe that it’s only may and we are $600 away from our target! it took some hard work, a little luck and a big tax return to help us put our financial goal within reach and we can’t wait to color in the rest of the chart. we still owe about $88,000 but we are determined to pay it all off as quickly as possible - one step at a time!
-
we shared all the details of our mortgage, monthly payments, and how quickly we expect to pay it all down on the blog a few months ago. tap the link in our profile for all the financials - and to grab a free printable chart to help track your own mortgage goals! -

Until you get comfortable being a lone, you’ll never know if you’re choosing someone out of love or loneliness.

sometimes, the thing holding us back is us! the thing holding us back from building wealth is us! the thing holding us back from becoming better is us!

With @cnbcmakeit: more than half of millennials, or those born between 1981 and 1996, think that they will be millionaires at some point in their lives, according to a 2018 survey from td ameritrade.β €
β €
the reality could be a lot less pleasant, though, as a report from the brookings institution makes clear.β €
β €
millennials are less wealthy than most previous generations were at the same age, the report finds. β €
β €
"they face an economic future with projections of lower rates of return and economic growth than in the past," the report adds.β €
β € "these factors make accumulating sufficient funds for retirement more difficult for millennials relative to previous generations."β €

wealth is not just about money, but having options! options to do what we want to do, when we want to do it. the ability to meet the needs of our families and others without having to think about our own. π–π‘πžπ§ 𝐰𝐞 𝐨𝐩𝐭𝐒𝐨𝐧𝐬... 𝐰𝐞’𝐫𝐞 𝐰𝐞𝐚π₯𝐭𝐑𝐲!
