Turkey vultures are the garbage collectors of the #grandcanyon โ˜ ๏ธ after dining on rotting flesh a vulture will perch and extend their wings outward so that the antibacterial effects of sunlight can clean their feathers ๐ŸŒž

โš ๏ธwarningโš ๏ธ if your feet look like this, you may have a disease called: refusal-to-wear-shoes. symptoms are infinite joy and a deep connection to the earth. also your roommates may say things like, “goddamnit you tracked mud all through the house you [email protected]€*in’ animal!” #barefootrunning #nelipot

Clenched fist mountain off in the distance โœŠ the only formation in the area to feature shinarump conglomerate and red sand and siltstones of the #moenkopi group. the moenkopi formation is believed to have been laid down 240mya during the lower #triassic era ๐Ÿฆˆ in rocks of this time we find basal vertebrates including freshwater #hybodontshark, #coelacanths, and #lungfish. temnospondyl amphibians are a common component of the fauna. temnospondyli include #eocyclotosaurus, #quasicyclotosaurus, #wellesaurus, #vigilius, and #cosgriffius. the #rhynchosaur #ammorhynchus is known, but rare. #anisodontosaurus is an enigmatic reptile only known from a few tooth-bearing jaws. the #poposauroid #archosaur #arizonasaurus is known from one relatively complete skeleton and a significant amount of other isolated material. footprints and several fragmentary body fossils are known from #dicynodonts ๐Ÿ‰

๐ŸŒ• tonight is the grand old #pinkmoon ๐Ÿ”ฎ notice the person standing on the rock left of the moon. this was a bit of an experiment with #telephoto photography and the canyon. this shot taken from #matherpoint at this time of the year displays the moon rising just over #yakipoint ๐ŸŒ€

So i finnaly bought a pair of @lunasandals ๐Ÿ‘ฃ as much as i love going full barefoot it was indeed the book #borntorun that inspired me to take on the world of minimalist running ๐Ÿ““ if you’ve read the book you know the legend of @barefoot_ted and the #tarahumara ๐ŸŒ™ #lunas are ted’s creation after his experiences with the natives in mexico โ˜€๏ธ they are named to honor manuel luna ๐Ÿœ yesterday i wanted to warm back up to the #grandcanyon so i took them on a flight to #phantomranch and back ๐Ÿ‘ i approve of this sandal

This is a photo i made of my friend @afashionnerd. she is a total nerd for fashion, a designer, and has become quite an incredible photographer. here she is wearing a scarf of decomposing kelp ๐ŸŒฑ i picked it up and threw it over her shoulders because i thought it’d bring her closer to nature, sort of like the way a kid might play in a mud puddle ๐Ÿ‘ฃ my beliefs of environmentalism are not that humans should cut themselves off from nature, yet that we shall have a stronger education of nature ๐Ÿค” kelp is eatable and high in vitamins a, b-12, c, d and e, as well as minerals including zinc, iodine, magnesium, iron, potassium, copper and calcium. in fact it contains the highest natural concentration of calcium of any food (10x more than cows milk) ๐Ÿ’€ kelp forests off the california coast are dying due to rising temperatures in our oceans (much like coral is dying too) ๐ŸŒŠ note, no kelp was killed in the taking of this photo. kelp grows from undersea rocks and reaches up to the sun โ˜€๏ธ violent conditions or the bite of a sea lion or sea urchin can tear a branch of kelp from its roots. the kelp will then float up and wash to shore (kind of like a dead leaf falling from a tree). you’ve probably seen this: once on shore the kelp will become food for bugs, sand worms, arthropods, and other invertebrates which in turn draws in hungry birds ๐Ÿฆ

Muscle beach is my favorite place in los angeles ๐Ÿคธ‍โ™€๏ธ if you’ve never been there, it’s like a giant playground for adults ๐ŸŽช i love seeing the qualities it brings out in people. even the most mundane of tourist’s eyes light up with joy as they possibly take a go on the metal rings ๐ŸŽข i’ve been to many towns, beaches, and cities around the continent and i’ve thought of how these communities would benefit from having their own “muscle beach” ๐Ÿ’ช which is why you must vote @pinocchiofoot for president 2020 ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ note the official site of #musclebeach is the south side of the #santamonicapier (which is also the official end of #route66). there is an outdoor gym and bodybuilding competition stage in venice which shares the name “muscle beach” and this is cause for much confusionโšก๏ธ
