@world - BuzzFeed World | Swedish teen Greta Thunberg has been nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize for her climate activism work. Her nomination comes a day before a planned global march against climate change on Friday. In August last year, the 16-year-old began to skip school every Friday to sit outside Sweden’s parliament to demand the country act on climate change. Her actions have inspired more than 20,000 students in at least 270 cities around the world to hold their own climate strikes. Thunberg was nominated by three Swedish MPs and would be the youngest Nobel Peace Prize recipient if she were to win. She wrote on Twitter that she was very honored and grateful for the nomination. “Tomorrow we #schoolstrike for our future. And we will continue to do so for as long as it takes,” she wrote 🌏✊️ (📷: @gretathunberg)

is_that_a_bug
@is_that_a_bug She deserves it
tear.tea
@tear.tea Ooh so the politicians ‘nominates’ her for her activism and use her to gain the social appraisals but can’t do nothing about what she’s standing up for that she has to keep coming again and again to raise the issue???
thedreadedqueen
@thedreadedqueen @sukimanio agreed. they'll worry about everything else except the humans that are actually alive and fighting to survive on a daily basis.
tae_yeon.k
@tae_yeon.k @mercurmarry.me l***o she started them?? how u educated can u get 😍😍
ruthie_arad
@ruthie_arad @melancholic_progressive you don’t have to risk your life to be nominated for a nobel peace prize. she is doing a bold and forward thinking thing that is for the benefit of all on the planet...i’d say that qualifies.
somethingcanbedone
@somethingcanbedone Hey, so i created this account to start a movement, with students and adults, to ask for change and help schools listen to students when we are begging on our knees asking for change, involving mental health, and shootings. i speak at school board meetings once a month in my district, and it would mean a lot if people followed this account and helped me. the more people standing together the more people will listen. go like my posts for more. thank you.
laurenthecrazygirl

_emma_j__
@_emma_j__ @thedreadedqueen it is truly, extremely sad and disturbing that so many people in the world are currently suffering. i really do sympathize and empathize with them, and i’m certain i’m not the only one. but fighting against climate change helps prevent the current situation from getting worse. don’t forget the environment is declining, and without a stable environment nothing can survive and thrive; including us humans. just because someone is nominated for a nobel prize because of their efforts to solve one problem does not mean nobody still cares and tries to solve other problems. maybe if we were open-minded and looked at the bigger picture, more people can understand that...
m_acsirem
@m_acsirem She deserves it - not because of what she’s doing individually (as some believe that she’s undeserving for *just* skipping school every friday) but because of the movement that she’s created. she’s a kid who saw that change needed to implemented and decided to do something about it. she took a stand and got thousands of others to stand with her. she’s an incredible young woman who is creating awareness about an epidemic in motion. yes, there are others fighting various different battles and with even worse circumstances and for human rights violations and causes but we shouldn’t be knocking down the accomplishments of greta. she’s done well - let’s celebrate her, join her and support her as much as we can. climate change has gotten so much of attention these past few weeks and whether or not she’s impacted that - we won’t really know but the fact that she stands for what she believes in is enough. she’s doing more than most of us so let her enjoy her recognition and celebrate her voice and her movement. she’s the future and we shouldn’t discourage young kids from voicing their opinions. right now they are at the forefront and they’re are resilient. she deserves all the recognition and hype. she’s a badass.
mercurmarry.me
@mercurmarry.me @tae_yeon.k is there any need to be so disrespectful to me ? i didn’t ask for your sarcasm. she in fact did not start the protest against climate change, people began striking against it in the 60’s.

@lui.from.the.block These prices are worthless.
theresaq11
@theresaq11 Oh just freakin stop with climate change! al gore some how got to this poor thing. go back to school hun.
thrashndashjared
@thrashndashjared Climate change? lol the climate is always changing, it was changing before humans.. hence the ice age. and it will conti ue to change long after we are extinct. all these countries pushing for climate change still get on big jets. still have billions of people driving cars, and still use massive amounts of electricity. ever notice how it used to be called global warming? that didnt last for long do to the extreem winter countries started having. so they had to change the name to something that would always be relevant. its all bullshit. do i believe in clean burning fuel and recycling yes. but does my country need to pay billions of dollors to a union that doesnt adhere to the same standards it sets itself. f**k no.
hapchanbaguio
@hapchanbaguio 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 youth power!!!!
thedreadedqueen
@thedreadedqueen @_emma_j__ its fine to care about the future, but more emphasis should be placed on caring about those that are here! and save me the "open minded" condescending bs. i know how important it is for us to care for our home and planet but this isn't about being open minded or having "empathy" via words, marches or placards...its about taking actual action to save lives. it's funny, because the biggest strain on the environment are from us in the west, but those that suffer the most and require the least aren't having their issues addressed. a trickle down approach to problem solving rarely works.

@thegr8kenia Beautiful
sadhandswork
@sadhandswork She’s also encouraging kids to skip school every friday, so what about that?
