6 weeks out to race day 🏊🏼‍♀️ 🚴🏻‍♀️ 🏃🏻‍♀️ •

winter training is tough. but once summer rolls around, i’m sure i’m going to wish for these temps on the long runs. 🤷🏻‍♀️

this is me getting my shoulders acclimated to getting out of the perfectly warm pool. the 2100m swim was the easiest part of the experience. •

and also, getting to meet a new friend, sylvia, at the pool. she offered to swim with me any day as she was there daily at 7:30am. rain or shine. she asked if i was training for #ironman (the backpack gave it away) and how many i’d done. as i explained that waco was my first but not exactly complete (cancelled swim). we got to talking about exercise, habit, lifestyle...i told her how i’m asked “why” i do this. (i mean look at these conditions?) •
but basically, my answer was because i can. and because i’ve always put ironman on a pedestal of near to unachievable goals because they were for “real” athletes. she interrupted me and said “honey, with your aspirations and what you’ve done, you are an athlete, some people are born with it” i disagreed with her there because i didn’t discover fitness as an aspiring athlete until i was 35. but to her point, i think it’s the determination that lives inside of us to help us push up and forward to reach those goals. •

sylvia told me she is 68, she explained that she did all the things i do and that when i’m her age, i’ll be coming to the pool still. ❤️ •

it was an inspirational conversation on the eve eve of my 45th birthday. 🎉 •

i’ll think of her and come look for her on my next cold dreaded swim. 🙂

I can’t tell you how badly i need a nap. or a cup of ☕️. 😴 •

the weather started off cold, windy and gray. all the components for a miserable bike ride. but carry on we did. •
half way through, the ☀️ made an appearance and the blue in the sky made me almost forget that my toes were numb. •
we got 40+ miles in on our allotted 3:15 training time followed by a 15 minute run...on legs that felt foreign. •
it was great to get it done since the weather after today is taking a nose dive. 🥶 ☔️ ⛈ •
also, my 🍑 & 💪🏼 are sore from yesterday. 🤭

did you get a workout in today? do you ditch if the weather is less than optimal or do you find an alternative?

Crazy coincidence. •
i mentioned in my stories today how i did a workout that i had not done since last year. it was pretty strenuous but i remember being stronger when i did it last. •
i decided to dig up the archives and sure enough, the pic on the left is after i did that workout almost a year to the day (2/16/18) v on the right, today 2/19/19...weird that i’m wearing same leggings in both. •
so it’s not much of a #transformationtuesday that you can see but i can tell the difference in my core...i’m pretty tight on the left and my 🍑 is pretty perky too. on the right, there is a lot of cardio happening with #triathlontraining and the nutrition is not nearly dialed in. but, to the n***d eye it looks pretty similar. the main reason for that is consistency. i made this fitness thing a lifestyle choice so that though i may skip a day or two here and there, i always get back on track. the same with my eating. i know exactly how and when to reel it in. •
deciding to start the journey is tough. but quitting and realizing you shouldn’t have quit & then to start again is even harder. it’s like the saying about the tires. just because one is flat, that doesn’t mean you should slash the other 3. .
indulging, skipping a workout, taking a break, living, is ok. don’t feel like that’s a failure to your end goal...just know to come back to it as soon as you can and make it part of your life rather than just an “option”. .

Quick clips of this workout that i last did about a year ago (almost to the day, and wore the same leggings!) this reminded me how great this program is and how i need to incorporate more of it into my #triathlontraining - i think it’s the strongest & fittest i’ve ever been (super lean from the #timednutrition too)

How many race t-shirts do you hoard for the sake of the memory but never really wear? 🙋🏻‍♀️
well, lately, i’ve been turning them into workout tanks. but most recently, it wasn’t an old one, it was a super cheap one i found at @target (who doesn’t love band shirts!?) .

No matter how busy i get, laundry does not take a break. ever. 😭

so, any little bit of time i can save with this process i will gladly take! •

I wasn’t planning on a #flexfriday post. .

but here we are. 💪🏼

i didn’t even manage to get a workout in (though i’m dressed for one if an opportunity arises!) but since we’re closing out our 5 day #selflove bootcamp today, it made think back and reflect on the changes that fitness has made on my life and how it was the first show of self love to myself. •
sure my abs made a pretty clear appearance but more so, what you can’t see, is my ability to love more richly because i was taking the time to take care of me. •
my confidence, energy, mood and my posture also benefited. can ya tell? 😃

so take it from a “skinny” girl, that girl in the top left was thin but anything but fit. she was winded at taking a flight of stairs and couldn’t run a mile. that was early 2009. •
by spring break that same year, the girl in the top right was 85% thru completing #p90x and feeling weird about flexing for a pic (especially in a bikini - cringe!) •
that was the early stages of learning what sticking to a workout program can do. •
the bottom photos are after finishing #80dayobsession in the spring of 2018 and the other 2 after #liift4 in the fall of 2018. •
so, i’m 10 years older on the bottom row and have 2 more kids than i did in the top row and clearly have no issue with my flex. 🤣

my vote is for the older, wiser girl. but don’t forget, it’s not just about how you look. it’s more about how you feel and how healthy you are!!

How apropos to run into this mural #streetart on our valentine eve long ride! ❤️

we’ve ridden right past it 3 times and just happen to notice it today. maybe it was the sunny, clear blue sky day that helped it stand out ☀️ •
we set out to ride for 4:15 and did just that and 50-52.5 miles (depending on who’s bike computer/watch you look at) - also got to help change a strangers flat tire (no thanks to me other than providing co2) and calling 911 for what looked like a house fire 🔥 along the route 😳. eventful to say the least!

finished it off with a 15 minute run back home and haven’t stopped since (soccer, bday dinner, class valentine prep, thank you notes, dishes, work, yadda yadda) i. am. pooped!! 😴 .

workout wise:

i ran yesterday and though i had to cut it short to squeeze everything in, i still got 7.5 miles in and i still forgot about my son’s orthodontic appointment. 🤦🏻‍♀️ oh well, super productive day nonetheless. •
i even got to jump in on my husband’s upper body #backandbicepsworkout and we got to build our guns together. lol. 💪🏼

Feeling a little relieved that we finally got our ducks in row and got our will and trust done. the hardest of conversations to have and it’s something we have procrastinated for much too long. the last time we attempted this was when we both flew overseas and left the kids behind. we hand wrote our wishes and signed it and told ourselves we’d make it “real” when we got back. well....
